Backpacking Horse Creek Trail

Thursday morning I left Rexburg to embark on my own adventure. I headed up past Salmon, Idaho with a group of people from my basic skills class. We drove 2 hours past Salmon to a place called Corn Creek.

Here we are at the Ranger Station about to hike in to Horse Creek.
From the Ranger Station to Horse Creek it is about 5 miles. Our packs carried everything we needed for 3 days. They weighed about 30lbs.

This sign says "River of no Return" which is referring to the Salmon River.

Fill up time! We carried 3 different types of water filters. They're pretty handy!

Me, Mindy, and Tayna's tent facing the Salmon river.

White gas stove. Making dinner was so quick and easy!

Dinner for night #1. Potato flakes, cream of chicken soup mix, dried veggies, and a bag of chicken cutlets. Mix it together with boiling water and...boom! Dinner in a bag :)

For dessert I made orange rolls in a bunt pan on our stove! They turned out so yummy!

Bear scat on our day hike the next day. This was one of many piles we saw. We had 3 cans of bear spray between us, but we never had to use it!

There is a rattle snake on this rock. We saw 4 different ones.

We went exploring and found this super old cabin in the middle of nowhere! This cabin is seriously in no mans land. The hike to it was super steep, rocky, and slippery. It's amazing that someone actually lived there.

One of the hillsides we hiked over to find the cabin. The blisters on my feet are from this hill!
The picture is kind of small...but we hiked up the switchbacks up to the top. You can see the trail at the bottom of the hill.
Made it!

We heard wolves across the river the night before our day hike. The next morning we found these prints.

 Tent mates :)

The group. Ready to hike back to Corn Creek. I was so excited to see Travis. I missed him terribly! I could've stayed at Horse Creek for a week if Travis were with me. But I was ready to leave after 3 days :)
